Police Department

The Town of Chase City Police Departments goal is to provide both Professional and Dedicated Law enforcement Service to the wonderful citizens of Chase City, VA.

The Town of Chase City Police Department is currently made up of a large staff including ten officers and two civilian employees. One of these officers is assigned to the Southside Drug Task Force. Anyone interested in becoming a Police Officer in Chase CIty, VA, please apply when there's a vacancy available. CURRENT QUALIFICATIONS FOR POLICE OFFICERS

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • A U.S. Citizen
  • Excellent physical condition.
  • No criminal or serious traffic record.
  • Have or eligible to obtain a VA operators license.
  • High School Graduate or G.E.D.
  • Pass Back Ground Investigation.
  • Pass Written and Psychological Exam.
  • Complete a several week training program at the Central VA Criminal Justice Academy in Lynchburg, VA.
  • Work shift work, Holidays and weekends.
  • Pass physical Exam.

Community Services

Chase City is served by an award-winning volunteer rescue squad, volunteer fire department, four major banks, and excellent town utilities and refuse collection. Also there is a new modern Community Center, active YMCA branch, Scouting and various other community service organizations.

The Estes Community Center is the culmination of the efforts of the citizens of Chase City and surrounding area to match a gift challenge made by C. Edwin Estes in honor of his father, W. W. Estes.

Chase City Community Services Board, the governing body of the Center, has formed a partnership with Southside Virginia Community College to bring college-level training and educational opportunities to Chase City. College classes are offered at the Center including training programs for nursing assistants, computer training, and academic classes, which apply to programs of study at SVCC.

The Estes Center is available to all citizens for rental and is used for weddings, receptions, reunions and other events and meetings. The Bluestone High School prom has been held in the Center for the past 13 years.

Summer Scholars, an activity and enrichment program for area children, is held each summer at the Estes Center. Children are able to register for classes in music, crafts, fishing, reading, cooking, etc., to broaden their skills during the summer vacation as well as having an enjoyable summer experience. These classes are offered during July and August each summer.

Butler LibraryButler Memorial Library was built in 1982 and has recently undergone a 1,024 square-foot addition which houses the children’s collection. Both the original building and the addition were funded as a community effort by the Friends of the Library. The Library is open seven days a week and maintains a collection in excess of 24,000 items including books, audios, videos, and periodicals. It is equipped with high-speed internet access and has several computers available for public use. A meeting room is available to non-profit public gatherings of a civic, cultural, or educational nature. The library operates as one of six branches of the Southside Regional Library System which maintains a website at www.srlib.org where patrons can browse the on-line catalog, read reviews of current best sellers, and access hundreds of links to reference materials and electronic resources.

Education

Chase City is served by an excellent public school system. The Chase City Elementary School has recently been awarded with state and national awards for excellence in education. Secondary school students attend Bluestone Middle School and Bluestone High School.Chase City Elementary School

Nearby Hampden-Sydney College, Longwood College and the twin campuses of Southside Virginia Community College offer a wide range of technical and vocational education including training courses which can be tailored to meet the needs of industry and businesses. The Medical College of Virginia, University of Virginia and Duke University are also within two hours of Chase City.

The Estes Community Center and Garland Building have formed a partnership with Southside Community College to bring college-level training and educational opportunities to Chase City. College classes offered at the Center include training programs of certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, computer training and other academic classes, which apply to programs of study at Southside Virginia Community College.

Medical Facilities

doctors offices in Chase CityThe Chase City Medical Clinic is staffed with three doctors, a nurse practitioner, consulting services and a quality nursing staff. Chase City Primary Care Clinic has one doctor, a nurse practitioner and a quality nursing staff. Both clinics are backed by one of Virginia's best volunteer rescue squads.

The town also includes a physical therapist and a dentist.

Two advanced hospitals, VCU Community Memorial Healthcenter in South Hill and Halifax Regional Hospital, are within a few miles of Chase City, and the Medical College of Virginia and Duke University are just over an hour away.

Just outside of town is a 120 bed Nursing Home (Chase City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center) which has a quality staff, physical rehabilitation services and an Alzheimer Unit.
